Embodied Acting: physical approaches to acting and voice – an Acting Workshop for Adults –

Date and Time:  Wednesday 6th July and Thursday 7th July 2022 from 7pm to 9pm

Venue: The Junction as part of their Summer Season 2022

‘We have become so out of touch with our lower bodies that we often treat them as if they were no more than trucks that carry our expressive upper bodies from place to place’ (Wangh, 2000).

Using a variety of embodied acting techniques, Josie will introduce workshop participants to some of the most up-to-date actor training skills being taught in UK drama schools today.

Josie draws her inspiration from a range of practitioners, including Konstantin Stanislavski, Michael Chekhov, Rudolf Laban, Jacques Lecoq, Jerzy Grotowski, Sanford Meisner, and Mary Overlie/Anne Bogart’s Viewpoints. Research interests include voice and text, consent, and Shakespeare.

A key element of the workshop will include prepared scene studies performed by Dubai Drama Group acting talent.

Who is it for?

People aged 16+ years with some experience in theatre. An application form will be included in the registration materials. The workshop is limited to 16 participants.

The workshop will include some physical work. Bare feet or grippy socks are preferred but trainers are acceptable. If you have any injuries or mobility issues you are welcome to adapt, slow down or sit out and observe if it gets too physical for your body.

We strive to create a safe and inclusive working space. If anyone has any particular requirements, including but not limited to hearing, language, mobility, or neurodivergence, please do let us know.
